Home Owner Exemption

HOME OWNER BUILDER EXEMPTION

A home owner can apply for exemption from the NHBRC’s home builder’s enrollment process if they intent on buiding their own house.

However, even thou you apply for exemption, you are still required to go through the NHBRC’s full registration process and still sit for and pass the Nhbrc’s Technical Assessment Test.

Other specific requirements on the  Home Owners Builder Questionnaire  also have to be met or answered correctly in order for you to be given this exemption.

Once granted, exemption from the NHBRC enrollment process will save you from paying the NHBRC’s enrollment fees however, exemption also means foregoing the following benefits associated with enrolling your house at the NHBRC.

    • You will not be able to sell your house within 5 years from date of occupation.

    • You will not be able to obtain cover for minor & major structural defects for a period of 5 years.

    • You will also not be able to get the annual warranty cover against roof leaks & defects.
